Half of Europe’s Jobs Threatened by Machines in Echo of U.S. Risk – Bloomberg 07-22-14

Salient to Investors:

  • Jeremy Bowles at Bruegel said 54% of EU jobs are at risk of advances in computerization, ranging from 40% to over 60% in each country and close to the US number in the UK, Germany and France.
  • Carl Frey and Michael Osborne at Oxford University estimated in September 2013 that 47% of US jobs were at risk of being automated over the next two decades, and said developments in machine learning and mobile robotics will hurt low-wage, low-skill jobs previously immune from technological breakthroughs.
